I write dumb essays, poems, and stories. I post them here.

Sunrise
We take it for granted
recognizing the beauty
but attributing it to an
omnipotent version of
ourselves or just
who we wish we could be
but that small god
is not enough and
paint is too weak a metaphor
because today I saw
waves of light exploded
from a massive fiery orb
millions of miles away
only eight minutes old
already filtered through
the great mass of gasses
reflected by that mix
of particles and again
through clouds of water
surrounding the planet
orbiting that star which
billions of years old
at some point cooled enough
to sprout life and nurture
us until we evolved a way
and a reason to see
and perceive that
improbable beauty
as it appears from this
particular orientation
in incomprehensible space and
understand that much
significance, implications and all
and that sure seems
like a miracle
to me.

The Thing About Shooting Stars
Jack tells me
that once you really could
wish upon a shooting star
and your wish would
come true
but then
someone wished
upon a shooting star
that no longer
would wishing upon
a shooting star
make your wish
come true
and now
here we are.
that once you really could
wish upon a shooting star
and your wish would
come true
but then
someone wished
upon a shooting star
that no longer
would wishing upon
a shooting star
make your wish
come true
and now
here we are.
